Abstract: The oribatid mite genus Pelopsis, found in forest litter and swamp habitats in the Americas is redefined. Current information indicates that Pelopsis is most closely related to Minunthozetes, Punctoribates and Zachvatkinibates in the mycobatid subfamily Minunthozetinae. A new species, P. baloghi, is proposed, based on material from swamp vegetation in lowland tropical rainforest of Costa Rica.

Author's address: Department of Zoology, Hungarian Natural History Museum and Systematic Zoology Research Group of Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Baross utca 13, H-1088 Budapest, Hungary, E-mail: mahunka@zoo.zoo.nhmus.hu

Abstract: Two new oribatid species are described from soil of rain forests in the Shimba Hills National Park (Kenya). One of them represents a new genus (Baloghoizetes pluritrichosus gen. et sp. n.) belonging to the family Microzetidae; the other (Pilobatella baloghi sp. n.) belongs to the family Haplozetidae.

Title: Nothrolohmannia baloghi sp. n. (Acari: Oribatida), from rainforest in Papua New Guinea, and reevaluation of Nothrolohmanniidae

Author: R. A. Norton

Abstract: Nothrolohmannia is a genus of oribatid mites that is endemic to Papua New Guinea (PNG). It has remained monotypic (type species: N. calcarata, from eastern PNG) since its proposal and its monobasic family, Nothrolohmanniidae, has been moved to various superfamilies as ideas about relationships changed. A second species, distinguishable by smaller adult size, proportionally smaller setae, and other details, has been collected from rainforest leaf litter in western PNG and is described below as N. baloghi sp. n. Nothrolohmannia is considered the sister-genus of Malacoangelia, which is an unquestioned member of the enarthronote family Hypochthoniidae. Nothrolohmanniidae is therefore reduced to subfamily rank, and expanded in scope to include the latter genus. New diagnoses are presented for Hypochthoniinae, Nothrolohmanninae, Malacoangelia and Nothrolohmannia.
